Zimbwabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to break with the past by not keeping his so called promises to allow the freedom of the press. In Zimbabwe there is no freedom of speech for those who speak against the government are arrested. One would think since Emmerson Mnangagwa was re-elected for his second term for the Presidency of Zimbabwe human rights laws would be on top of his priority list, instead the government of Zimbabwe has come up with laws which have been misused as an instrument of oppression and that they have also amended existing laws to fit their narrative to dictate upon journalists or human rights defenders.

The violence against journalists and activists still continues to this day on President Emmerson’s watch. This clearly shows the human rights situation in Zimbabwe keeps on worsening as long the government( Zanu-PF) are not taking any meaningful steps to uphold rights and ensure justice for those who are abused by authorities ,which whom are supposed to serve and protect. Nothing has been done about those who have been tortured, wrongfully arrested, and other abuses against opposition politicians and activists.
