When did it all start and how is it still going? That bold statement on its own says a lot about the state of Zimbabwe. Will corruption never end in Zimbabwe? The answer to that, I am afraid, is no! Corruption and exploitation of the wealth of Zimbabwe’s natural resources have been ongoing since the country gained independence on 18th April 1980. Emmerson Mnangagwa promised to be the game changer, the one who would bring in investors and make Zimbabwe great, but unfortunately, the only thing he has changed is the filling of his back pockets. It is now glaringly evident to all Zimbabweans and the outside world that Zanu-PF and their commander in chief, Emmerson Mnangagwa, are nothing short of a mafia, plundering Zimbabwe’s natural resources for the exclusive benefit of the Zanu-PF elite.

The criminal activities of the Zanu-PF regime have been shrouded in secrecy, but they were brought to light when Al Jazeera exposed the entire operation. The smuggling network is interconnected with money laundering, gold smuggling, and Zimbabwe’s central bank. All of this is enabled by senior government officials and relatives of the country’s president, Emmerson Mnangagwa. Unfortunately, it seems like there will be no accountability as the law seemingly does not apply to them. One would expect that the money earned from smuggling would be invested back into the country. However, these ill-gotten gains have only perpetuated the decline in routine maintenance of critical infrastructure such as power generation, sewage systems, water supply, roads, railways, dams, and the list goes on. Zimbabwe, rich in resources, continues to suffer due to being held hostage by the Zanu-PF regime, better known as the mafia.

The Zanu-PF regime still employs violence, abductions of opposition figures, and torture to oppress the citizens of Zimbabwe, and they have been doing so for decades. The fundamental question remains: When will it all come to an end?

The sad reality is that corruption and mismanagement have become deeply ingrained in Zimbabwe’s political and economic landscape. The once-promising nation, with vast potential, now finds itself trapped in a cycle of greed and power struggles. The vision of a prosperous Zimbabwe seems like a distant dream as long as the country is held captive by those who prioritize personal gain over the well-being of the nation.

The effects of corruption and exploitation are felt by every Zimbabwean, leaving many struggling to make ends meet. Basic services such as education and healthcare have suffered, and the unemployment rate continues to soar. The country’s potential remains untapped as investors shy away from an environment riddled with corruption and uncertainty.

To break free from this vicious cycle, Zimbabwe needs a new era of leadership committed to transparency, accountability, and the genuine welfare of its people. A comprehensive overhaul of the governance structure is imperative to restore faith in the country’s institutions and bring back hope to the people.

It is essential for the international community to closely monitor the situation in Zimbabwe and exert pressure on the Zanu-PF regime to embrace meaningful reforms. Isolation and sanctions might prove effective tools to compel the regime to change its ways, although it’s crucial to consider the potential impact on the common citizens who are already suffering.

Furthermore, civil society, the media, and the citizens themselves play an essential role in demanding change and holding those in power accountable. The power of collective voices cannot be underestimated in the fight against corruption and oppression.

In conclusion, the enduring corruption and exploitation in Zimbabwe paint a bleak picture for the nation’s future. Unless decisive action is taken, the vicious cycle will persist, and the dreams of a prosperous Zimbabwe will remain elusive. Only through genuine commitment to the well-being of the nation and its people can Zimbabwe hope to break free from the grip of corruption and reclaim its potential as a thriving nation. The time for change is now; the question remains, will it ever end?
